The Athenian based label has carved a niche for itself over the last three years, known as an imprint devoted to experimental and conceptual techno, and it sees no sign of slowing down, quite the opposite taking this latest EP in account. Gaining some serious momentum with releases by heavyweights like Yves De Mey, Cassegrain, AnD, Sawf, The Exaltics and label heads Kondaktor and ANFS, they are now joined by Biomass & R.O.M. The Greek electronic producer Panos Kyveleas, (a.k.a. BIOMASS), and the Italian impro-noise duo R.O.M. (Alessandro Quintavalle/electronic bass & Luca Pastore/tenor sax).
There are moments created throughout this EP where you could be forgiven for thinking at times that you’re in a chase scene from a 70’s action-thriller. And that’s a testament to the musicality sprinkled throughout this release. M.D.O.F.#1 presents a series of soundscape textures, blended with (processed) saxophone melodies. M.D.O.F.#2 and M.D.O.F.#3 are two very unique noise/free-jazz sessions, including both bass and saxophone solos, along with distorted ambience. M.D.O.F.#4 is based on rhythmic bass themes and abstract electronic and saxophone sounds, fused into drone layers.
M.D.O.F is arguably one of the labels strongest releases to date.
